IWC Miri: Report December 2012

November 2012 (by Florence Enau)

  1. The IW club of Miri had a stall, a Summer Bazaar, at the Piasau Boat Club on Saturday 17th of June. We sold cakes, jam, crisps and cookies. The money raised was donated to the Miri Home for the Aged in Krokop
  2. Joint installation on 14th July 2012. Florence Enau was installed as President by Meena Tiong, the outgoing President. Florence then inducted two of our four new members, Christabel Cherurai and Trinnah Estiva (a former member). The other new members not in the installation are Jenny Wee Ming Na (a former Rotarian) and Jacqueline Selaka.
  3. On the 31st July 2012, the Inner Wheel Club of Miri donated a metal cupboard with a lock, two bulletin boards, 2 bottles of Zip cleaner, 1 bottle of Dettol floor cleaner and 2 bottles of cooking oil to the Home for the Aged. Sister Lucia received the donations. These were from the proceeds of the summer sale
  4. In our July 24th meeting, it was suggested by Trinnah that we will do crafts. We will decorate small flower pots, cups and finish off decorating pine cones for the Christmas Charity Bazaar in December 2012. The first craft session was in Florence’s house on Sunday, 12 August. We have had seven crafts sessions on Sundays up through the end of October. The attendance for the crafts has been sporadic. Trinnah has been the main stay for the crafts.
  5. District Chairman Rokiah Staun came to visit the Inner Wheel Club of Miri on 30th September. Also present was Datin Pearl Jai Mohan, Extension Chairman for District 330. She came to talk to us about the project “Whispering Hope for Bario”. This is to help supply stationery items for the students at SK Bario. Initially, the clubs involved were IWC KLCC, IWC Kuching and IWC Miri. Datin Pearl said IWC Bangsar, IWC Kuantan and IWC Kota Kinabalu are keen to join in the project. On 1st to 3rd August 2012, DC Rokiah, Extension Chairman Datin Pearl, President Florence and Florence’s friend Chang Yi, went to Bario to see the primary school, and met with the students and some of the teachers. On the trip to Bario, IWC Miri donated some used clothes, 2 cooking pots filled with sago flour, 2 rolls of raffia, 2 parang, 10 blankets and trapouline for the Penans who live near Bario.
